Short Story Collection ~ An e-book original

CRIMES AND CONFUSIONS
Five Historical Short Stories

These five short stories feature a variety of times, places, and people, from medieval England to Bangor, Maine in 1888. Characters from the Face Down Mystery Series appear in some, and in others the detectives are drawn from the Diana Spaulding Mystery Quartet. Titles include "The Reiving of Bonville Keep," "The Kenduskeag Killer," "The Tell-Tale Twinkle," "Any Means Short of Murder," and "The Curse of the Figure-Flinger."

This is an original e-book publication. It is the length of a novella—a short book of perhaps 150 pages if it were published in traditional format.

The free sampler offered has the opening pages of each of the short stories, to give you an idea of what’s in store for you in the collection.

For Middle Grades and Young Adult Readers

SHALLA

This historical novel for young readers is an e-book original offered for the first time at AWritersWork.com. Set in Colonial Rhode Island in the mid-seventeenth century, Shalla is the fictionalized story of a real person, one of the children of Rhode Island founder Samuel Gorton, known as "the New England firebrand." Because of his religious and political beliefs, Samuel Gorton was kicked out of Plimoth Plantations, Providence, and Pawtuxet before founding his own colony in what is now Rhode Island. He called it Shawomet, although it is now known as Warwick. In 1643, soldiers from the Massachusetts Bay Colony attacked Shawomet and captured Samuel Gorton, taking him to Boston for trial. No one knows exactly where his wife and children were during the time he was in prison there. This is the story of what might have happened to them, told through the eyes of one of his daughters, a girl with the remarkable name of Mahershallahashbaz Gorton. I call her Shalla.

Insulted, sixteen-year-old Kristy embarks on a journey of
self-discovery, trying to figure out why he rejected her.
In the attempt, she comes to realize that her own self-esteem
is more important than what anyone else thinks of her.
But will that knowledge enable her to make the right choice

It isn't just her own future she holds in her hands.
